The Response Digital Campaign
FOR EQUALITY AFRICA
About The Response
The Response is a multi-platform campaign, curated and produced by For Equality, with the aim of ensuring the voices of women are heard and needs prioritised in light of emerging issues.
The Response was launched as a campaign driven by the urgent need to ensure that women and girls are not left behind in the pandemic response i.e. their voices are heard and needs prioritised, and has evolved to respond to the existing gap in documentation of women’s lived experiences, especially since the onset of COVID-19.
FOR EQUALITY AFRICA
To achieve this, ‘The Response’ seeks to:
1. Provide systemic feminist analysis of emerging and pressing issues that shape policy and strategy.
2. Develop context-specific responses in order to mitigate the adverse impact of the pandemic, various human rights violations, and natural disasters; and to inform policymakers, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the private sector on effective pathways to socio-economic recovery
3. Place the shared experiences of African women and girls at the forefront of the movement for Gender Equality.
4. Provide platforms for deeper discussion and sharing of practical and strategic solutions towards the advancement of Gender Equality led by feminist activists, thought leaders and scholars among others.
The Response Platforms:
1. The Response
This will be a monthly publication, written by feminist leaders, women’s rights advocates and activists, thought leaders, scholars and specialists, that seeks to provide systemic feminist analysis of emerging and pressing issues that shapes the pandemic response policy and strategy! With so much going on, there is a need for world events to be interpreted through a feminist lens so as to ensure that global events remain engendered.
2. The Response Podcast and Webinar Series
Each month, we host feminist leaders, activists, scholars, political leaders, young women etc to discuss and analyse emerging issues from a feminist perspective. The podcast and webinar series will in many ways act as an extension of the newsletter, giving room for deeper discussion.
3. Faces
Faces is a series that will spotlight and showcase women’s leadership, at all levels, in African history and in the advancement of Gender Equality. Faces is a special edition of The Response Newsletter, that is specifically published to feature the stories and biographies of influential women who have played a key role in the building of our societies and countries.
