Spotlighting Women’s Labour Rights

Spotlighting Women’s Labour Rights

20th October 2022

By CEWAG, For Equality

The economy of the country remains in a detrimental state because of many factors including the Covid 19. In the wake of the ailing economy, the most affected groups are women, most of whom head their families.

Reports show that many women have been forced out of employment as a result, or denied employment opportunities and denied access to entrepreneurial resources and opportunities, largely because of their gender.  As such, there is a need to ensure that all stakeholders are involved in bringing to light the rights of women in the labour sector and women’s labour rights can be protected.

To ensure that women are aware of their labour rights, CEWAG under the #SheActs4Feminomics project conducted a training targeting several stakeholders to raise awareness on issues women face in labour and businesses to ensure that they give adequate support when it needed. Women from the media were also included to enable them apply the same in their workplace as well as to be able to report these issues effectively

This training, among other activities implemented by CEWAG under the #SheActs4Feminomics project, which aims to build and maintain a knowledge base on the macro-level policy environment and its impacts on economic justice with a focus on women owned SMEs, land and labour rights

The project leverages the power of collective campaigning to place this issue at the centre of public discourse; and brings on board key partners including the Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre, The National Association of Business Women (NABW), For Equality, and Chikulamayembe Women Forum.

The Coalition for the Empowerment of Women and Girls (CEWAG) is a local non-profit NGO operating in Malawi. CEWAG was founded in 2017 and is registered with the NGO Board and affiliated to CONGOMA. Our vision is to see a society where both girls and women enjoy their lives fully.  Our vision is to safeguard the rights of all women and girls in the country and ensure that there is accountability in all areas
