23rd October 2022
By For Equality
The Strengthening and Harnessing collective voice and action to Enhance Women’s Rights Summit (SHE Summit) is hosted by For Equality annually and brings together community, government, civil society, and private sector actors to reflect, strategize and work towards providing a platform for thought leadership, networking, and deep conversation to advance gender equality while developing tangible actions to tackle the deep-rooted inequities that exist.
In its fourth year, the 2022 SHE Summit, will be held on the 31st October 2022, in Lilongwe, Malawi, as well as livestreamed for virtual participation, under the theme, “Towards Accountability and Transparency for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Financing in Malawi”.
Investment in health, in particular, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights is critical for the effective promotion of Gender Equality and retention of the broader development targets. Despite evidence of the catalytic power of investment in SRHR to propel and accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), commensurate investments in SRHR are lagging behind.
This year’s SHE summit seeks to bring together different stakeholders to reflect on the current trends in SRHR financing in Malawi, and the challenges faced as well as strategize and explore opportunities for scaling up investment in SRHR.
The summit will also look into the role of development partners in mobilizing support for sexual and reproductive rights and analyze the key policy and resource allocation decisions made by Malawi.
The summit also provides an opportunity for Oxfam Malawi and the Malawi SRHR Alliance to share the findings of the Study and Report on the Malawi Budget Analysis focusing on Sexual and Reproductive Health.
Expected outcomes from the summit include; a developed key recommendations report for key Government Ministries (Ministry of Health, Ministry of Gender, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance) to be presented during the interface policy dialogue, and Strengthened collaborative relations with relevant Ministries to address the gaps in SRHR Financing for accountability and transparency.
